Rolesville Police Investigate Vandalism of George Taylor Memorial at Main Street Park

ROLESVILLE — The Rolesville Police Department is investigating the vandalism of the George Taylor Memorial at Main Street Park. The incident was reported to police on December 17, 2024.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the sign and pole knocked to the ground. Officers say it appears a vehicle was used to knock the sign down. Police are diligently working to track down the person responsible.

The marker has been replaced, and security cameras have been added in the surrounding areas.

The George Taylor Memorial was unveiled on Sept. 7, 2024. The Wake County Remembrance Community Coalition worked with the Town of Rolesville and the Equal Justice Initiative.

George Taylor was an African American man who was lynched two miles southeast of Rolesville on November 5, 1918. This remains one of the only documented lynchings to happen in Wake County.
