This week, Rolesville's Parks and Recreation Department worked with Wake County, Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry, and the Northern Community Food Security Team to distribute healthy food boxes to Eat. Well. Wake. participants.
This food prescription pilot program went live Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024, with seven clients, five in Wake Forest and two in Rolesville.
The program will provide a free box of food twice a month to patients who receive medical care at the Northern Regional Center. Healthcare staff at the center will refer eligible, active patients to the program.
Boxes will be distributed twice a month at two pickup sites, one in Rolesville and the other in Wake Forest.
The food boxes are made possible with the help of local partners such as Community Connections Garden, which donates fresh produce, and Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry, which provides shelf-stable foods and coordinates the packing of boxes with the help of its volunteers. The food in the box helps promote healthy eating habits for the patient's entire family and includes low-sodium, fat-free, and sugar-free foods.
