According to the U.S. Forest Service, an invasive plant is a plant that is "Non-native (or alien) to the ecosystem under consideration; and, whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health."
Large sections of invasive plants have crowded portions of Main Street Park making it more difficult for visitors to enjoy the park's natural beauty. These invasive plants also outgrow and overtake native plants which, in turn, damages the local ecosystem. In June of 2022, work began to eradicate these plants from the park. Removal efforts will continue in the years to come and become a part of the Town's yearly park maintenance plan to encourage our native plant species to reclaim the area.

If you see an area of Main Street Park that has been cleared of vegetation, do not worry! These are just sections that were filled with invasive plants. Staff is actively working to remove the invasive plants from these areas and allow the native plants to grow back. Any questions can be directed to Project and Facilities Coordinator Eddie Henderson.
